Ever feel like you know what you want and what to do to get there, but something is stopping you? I can't even count how many times I hear clients tell me, "I know what I should do, but I just can't seem to do the things I know I should do to get what I want." If that's you, you're not alone. In fact, that's exactly how NLP & hypnosis can help. If you consciously want something, but your behavior is reflecting the complete opposite, then that means that there's something at an unconscious level running the issue.
So how do you get past that block? With some simple questions, you can get to the core of your issue, easily and effortlessly, which is the first step to success. In everyone's life there comes a time when we experience an event where we unconsciously choose to take on a negative belief. For example, I knew someone who was told by her teacher, when she was 10 years old, that because she didn't understand a math concept, that she would never amount to anything. It baffles me that any teacher would say something like that to someone who is just learning, but it happens far too often than we want to believe. In thinking about that situation, the woman I knew said that she had a learning disability, but what we discovered is that she didn't have a learning disability at all. The reality is that of course she wasn't dumb because she didn't understand a concept that wasn't taught to her in a way which she resonated with. However, she chose at an unconscious level to make a limiting decision that she was stupid. Now how would someone's life be with that limiting belief? Of course she struggled to learn most new concepts because of that limiting negative belief.
When we have a negative belief, we can experience a vast array of unwanted behaviors that gets in our way to accomplishing what we want in life. In order to move past those negative feelings and behaviors, we first must discover what is the driving force behind them.
Here are 5 questions to ask yourself to take the first step to emotional freedom:
1. What 3 negative thoughts/beliefs do you have that set you back?
2. Now looking at those statements, what belief would you say you have about yourself?
3. Would you say that this is a belief that is at the core of your issues? In other words, does your issue(s) stem from this limiting belief? If not, look back at the statements again & consider what belief about yourself makes those statements true.
4. What’s the positive intention behind this limiting belief?
5. If you let go of that limiting belief, what would happen? How would it transform your life?
Now notice what event in your past happened, in which you first experienced that limiting belief. Also notice how the unconscious decision was made to believe that event: ie: if the limiting belief is, "I'm not good enough," then notice how you made that unconscious decision to believe that. Notice how you may have made that decision during a moment of stress, or in the past when you didn't have all of the inner-resources or understandings that you have now. As you see yourself in that event, take note of what positive learnings, understandings, & insights can you gain from that event, which will allow you to let go of that limiting belief.
Once you've gained a clear, positive understanding, then begin to reframe your beliefs. Instead of "I am not good enough," come up with a new belief about yourself, such as, "I am good enough," "I am worthy," "I am smart, confident," etc..
You can also follow this exercise with writing down 5 things that prove your old negative belief wrong. If you believed you were not good enough, then write down 5 instances where you felt worthy, confident, good enough, etc.
Remember, that positive results require some instrospection, but instead of asking yourself, "Why," this or that happened, ask, "What can I gain from those experiences?"
Now that you're well on your way to breaking down those barriers that have been stopping you, now go get the life you've imagined!
